I was away for the last week or so at Burning Man. I haven’t been since 2010 or so but this was my 10th time. So it was interesting to see how it has changed since I was last there / since I was first there.
But then in between the extreme conditions, there is rather amazing art – some of which you cannot do anywhere else. For example, this year the Burning Man Organization asked the Flaming Lotus Girls to bring back the Serpent Mother – which I worked on back in 2006. As the blurb goes
“The Serpent Mother is a 168′ long sculpture of a skeletal serpent, coiled around her egg. Propane fire runs down her spine, with 41 poofers erupting from the top of her gleaming vertebrae. Reaching 20’ in the air, her hydraulically actuated head and jaws chomp at the sky.”
I camp with a rather wonderful group of long-term burners – where there is a whole range of fire art in the village. And sometimes we’re having so much fun hanging out, it seems hard to actually leave the village.
But… I came back on Saturday before the Burn – which was really quite easy. And have spent the last few days doing “re-entry” – cleaning and washing and organizing – catching up on email and messages – and catching up on sessions with all the slaves and sissies who had been waiting to schedule on my return.
It has been quite a change… I loved it out there… And I love it here…
