I now finally have all my tax information in to my tax preparer and we’ve been back and forth a few times clarifying details. I still don’t know whether I’ll be in line for a refund, but at least all that is out of the way.

I think I find this process more stressful than most people. In contrast to the US, the UK has a far less arcane tax code, with some people not having to fill in a tax return at all, and even self-employed people like me being able to complete a return by simply filling in 2-5 pages – without a tax professional. So, while the US tax system might create career opportunities for tax professionals, it is a bit of a shock to me – even after nearly fifteen years here.

One other reason that I’m thinking a lot about taxes at the moment is that my Tax Special has resulted in a great deal of interest. To recap… If you’ve seen me before and you book a session before April 15 then the fee for a one hour session is $200 (rather than the usual $300). A two hour session is $350 (rather than the usual $500).

This is the first time I’ve done this, and I’ve been surprised at how many regular slaves / subs have booked a session. Maybe that is an indication of how many of them were feeling anxieties about their taxes? Anyway it has been very pleasant to have so many attentive and devoted slaves around…
